Right before the start of the historic Women’s Premier League 2023, Gujarat Giants has been dealt a major blow as Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the tournament. Gujarat Giants will take on Mumbai Indians in the opening match to be played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai at 8.00 PM today.

The West Indies Cricketer was purchased by the Gujarat Giants side in the WPL auction last month. She denied reports of her being ruled out of the tournament due to medical conditions. Gujarat Giants confirmed that Kim Garth had joined the squad through social media. Dottin had denied all reports of being not well.

During an Instagram story in which she was ruled out of the tournament and also put a message to get well soon. Dottin commented get well soon from what may I ask?

“I really appreciate all the messages but truth be told I’m recovering from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing thank you #GodIsGood #GodIsInControl.”

Kim Garth who has replaced Dottin in the Gujarat Giants squad was not picked by any of the 5 franchises during the WPL auction. She was a part of the Australian team that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 for the sixth time defeating South Africa at Cape Town.

Gujarat Giants will be led by Beth Mooney who played an important role with the bat during the finals of the 2023 T20 World Cup against South Africa where she made 74 off 53 balls and was named player of the match award. Kim Garth played for Ireland’s side from 2010 to 2019 before moving to the Australian squad. She made her international debut in Australia in 2022.

Deandra Dottin’s performance in T20I cricket for West Indies

Deandra Dottin has been performing brilliantly for West Indies in all formats, especially T20I cricket. She played a total of 127 matches ( 125 innings) and scored 2697 runs with a career-best score of 112 not out. During her career, she blasted 2 centuries along with 12 half-centuries in the shortest format.

She was a medium-pace bowler and grabbed 62 wickets from 127 matches ( 67 innings) with best figures of 5/5 at an economy rate of 6.82 runs per over. She played her last T20I match for Barbados against India in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Dottin announced her shocking retirement from the West Indies Cricket Team in August 2022. She decided to retire citing reservations about the team environment.
