Delhi Capitals registered a commanding 9-wicket win over Mumbai Indians to top the group played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on 20 March 2023 in the WPL 2023.

Chasing down a paltry total of 110 runs to win, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on Mumbai Indian bowlers. Verma took on the pacers as well as spinners not allowing them to settle. After a quickfire start, Shafali Verma was stumped by Bhatia off the bowling by Mathews. Verma and Lanning put on 56 runs for the opening wicket laying a foundation for a big win.

Alice Capsey joined in the fun with positive stroke play keeping the momentum going for Delhi Capitals. At the end of six overs, Delhi Capitals made 67 for 1. After field restriction, Capsey enjoyed her batting keeping the scoreboard with some big shots. Lanning looked cool and calm as Delhi Capitals chased down this target in just 9 overs.

It was a superb batting effort by Lanning and Capsey as they put on unbeaten 54 runs for the 2nd wicket. With this win, Delhi Capitals move to the top of the table with a plus run rate of 1.978.

Delhi Capitals bowlers showed class

Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for DC as Mariazanne Kapp got two early wickets in the form of Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver Brunt off successive deliveries.

A sensational catch by Jemimah Rodrigues diving to her left dismissed Hayley Mathews in the 4th over to leave Mumbai Indians in deep trouble at 10 for 3. Delhi Capitals kept the pressure on Mumbai Indians batters with discipline lines and lengths. Pooja Vastrakar and Kaur were looking good before Jess Jonassen struck to dismiss Vastrakar. Vastrakar and Kaur added 37 runs for the 5th wicket.

Despite Issy Wong’s knock, Delhi Capitals restricted Mumbai Indians to just 107 for 9. Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Jess Jonassen grabbed 2 wickets each for DC.
