WPL 2024: 5 Foreign Players To Watch Out For
WPL 2024

The 2nd edition of the Women’s Premier League 2024 is about to start on 23rd February and will go on till 17th March 2023. This tournament will be played in Bengaluru and New Delhi.

Each team has some brilliant T20I players who made a major impact on their countries. It promises to be another exciting tournament with top-quality foreign players that can change the course of the game with their explosive abilities.

Here we look at the 5 Foreign Players To Look Out For In WPL 2024

  1. Hayley Mathews

The West Indies star batter Hayley Mathews has been retained by Mumbai Indians franchise this year. She played a key role with both bat and ball that helped MI win the first edition of WPL last year.

She scored 271 runs from 10 matches (10 innings) with best score of 77 not out. Mathews performed brilliantly for the West Indies in the shortest format. The star West Indies all-rounder would look to provide stability and provide bowling options for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming season WPL starting from 23rd February onwards.

The pitch at Bengaluru promises to be exciting as it would help the batters which would suit Mathews. In the bowling department, she finished as the leading wicket for WPL 2023 with 16 wickets from 10 matches (10 innings) including best figures of 3/5 at an economy of 5.94 runs per over. She would be looking for brilliant performances with both bat and ball helping Mumbai Indians defend their title.

  1. Sophie Devine

The explosive White Ferns batter Sophie Devine has been retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise this season. She can smash the bowlers with her aggressive intent and make use of the first six overs which would put pressure on opponents.

During the first edition of WPL 2023, Sophie Devine was the leading run scorer for RCB with 266 runs from 8 matches (8 innings) with 2 fifties including a best score of 99 against Gujarat Giants. Devine will be looking to provide explosive starts to RCB along with Smriti Mandhana which would help RCB post or chase down targets easily.

  1. Tahila Mcgarth

Tahila McGarth looked impressive in the first edition of WPL 2023. She was bought by UP Warriorz in 2023. It was a great performance by the right-handed batter with 302 runs from 9 matches (8 innings) including 4 half-centuries to her name with the best score of 90 not out. Mcgarth has performed brilliantly for the Australian team in Indian conditions.

UP Warriorz reached the eliminator and did a superb performance in that match also. She would be looking for brilliant performances in WPL 2024 with the bat and help her franchise to perform better. McGarth would benefit as she would play under the captaincy of Alyssa Healy.

  1. Annabel Sutherland

Annabel Sutherland has been bought by the Delhi Capitals franchise for Rs 2 Crore. She performed brilliantly in the one-off test match against South Africa with a double century and picking five wickets in the second innings to help Australia register an emphatic win.

Sutherland had a disappointing outing for the Gujarat Giants in WPL 2023. She played just 4 matches and scored 28 runs. She is a handy batter who can put enough pressure on the bowlers with her explosive style of play.

She will be a great benefit for Delhi Capitals and hope to see them win the title as they could not do it losing to Mumbai Indians.

  1. Marizanne Kapp

Marizanne Kapp has been retained by the Delhi Capitals franchise for WPL 2024. She was brilliant with her batting with 177 runs from 9 matches (7 innings) with a score of 39 not out. Kapp performed brilliantly in the recently concluded limited-overs series against Australia.

She finished in the top 10 leading wicket-takers during WPL 2023. Kapp grabbed a total of 9 wickets from 9 matches (9 innings) at an economy of 5.72 runs per over. If the conditions help her, she would be a major threat which would help Delhi Capitals win matches and win WPL 2024.

Kapp would play a key role with both bat and ball which will create impact with a strong batting Delhi Capitals batting unit.
