The Gujarat Giants registered their first win of WPL 2024 defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in a high-scoring thriller played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on 6th March 2024.

Gujarat Giants openers Laura Woolvardt and Beth Mooney put on 140 runs for the opening wicket laying before posting 199 for 5. Gujarat Giants bowlers showed discipline and kept picking wickets at regular intervals to restrict them to 180 for 8.

  1. Most Run Outs In Franchise T20 match

The match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants saw 7 run-outs in the entire match. Laura Woolvardt, Litchfield, and Veda Krishnamurthy were involved in runouts from the Gujarat Giants.

S Meghana, Sophie Molineux, Wareham, and Ekta Bisht were runouts in the Royal Challengers Bangalore innings. This is the most runouts during any franchise T20 match including men’s or women’s.

This is the joint most runouts in T20 cricket. Rwanda and Malawi match saw a total of 7 runouts.

  1. Second Highest Partnership in WPL history

Laura Woolvardt and Beth Mooney had a dream opening partnership against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both looked impressive with positive strokes putting the bowlers under pressure.

The previous best was by Devika Vaidya and Alyssa Healy who put on unbeaten 139 against Royal Challengers Bangalore last year.

Meg Lanning and Shafali Varma still hold the record of the highest partnership in WPL history. They put on 162 runs for the opening wicket against Royal Challengers Bangalore last year.

  1. Youngest Debutant in WPL History

Shabnim Shakil made her Women’s Premier League debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore yesterday replacing Tarnum Pathan.

Shakil bowled reasonably well in the three overs, giving away 27 runs, but could not pick any wickets. She is the youngest debutant to feature in WPL history.  She was 16 years, 8 months, and 19 days old.

Parashavi Chopra held the record for the youngest debutant at the age of 16 years, 10 months, and 7 days for UP Warriorz against Mumbai Indians in 2023.

  1. First Overseas Left-Handed Batter To Hit Fifty In WPL

Gujarat Giants captain Beth Mooney led from the front with a match-winning knock of 85 not out off 51 balls that helped them to post 199 for 5 despite losing wickets in the end overs.

She became the first overseas left-handed batter to hit fifty in WPL history. Before this encounter, including the first two seasons, none of the overseas batters could achieve this unique feat.

For his captain’s knock, Beth Mooney was named the player of the match award. With this, Gujarat Giants opened their account in WPL 2024.

  1. Highest Score by Gujarat Giants batter in WPL history

Beth Mooney holds the record of the highest individual scorer by Gujarat Giants batter in WPL history. Mooney looked impressive in yesterday’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore playing with intent putting pressure on the bowlers. She remained not out on 85 and helped GG post 199 for 5.

Laura Wolvaardt’s 76 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 6th March 2024 holds the record of second highest individual scorer by GG batter in WPL history. Woolvardt 68 was the highest scorer by GG batter against RCB in 2023.
