Gujarat Giants announced Lea Tahuhu as Lauren Cheatle’s replacement for the upcoming edition of the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, which kicks off on February 23 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They announced the replacement on Saturday, February 10.
Lauren Cheatle underwent a medical procedure to remove skin cancer from her neck last month. She also underwent a similar treatment in 2021. Lauren will miss the 2024 Women’s Premier League as she recovers from the treatment. The tournament has wished her a speedy recovery, in their press statement.
Lea Tahuhu has been named as her replacement by the Gujarat Giants. She has represented New Zealand in 80 T20Is and 93 ODIs. She has 78 T20I wickets and 109 wickets in ODI cricket. She has been signed by the Gujarat Giants for INR 30 Lakh for the upcoming season.
“Gujarat Giants (GG) named Lea Tahuhu as replacement for Lauren Cheatle for the upcoming edition of the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, starting February 23, 2024,” wrote the WPL in their statement.
“Cheatle, a left-arm pacer from Australia, recently underwent a medical procedure on her neck and will be unavailable for the upcoming TATA WPL season. WPL would like to wish Cheatle a speedy recovery,” they added.

The Gujarat Giants finished in the last position in the points table of the 2023 Women’s Premier League season. They just won two out of their six matches.
