Australia pacer Lauren Cheatle is set to miss the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 season after undergoing a medical procedure to remove skin cancer from her neck. The upcoming season begins on February 23 and will place in two cities, Bengaluru and Delhi.
Lauren Cheatle was signed by the Gujarat Giants at the auction in December last year. She was signed at a base price of ₹30 lakh during the event. However, the pacer is likely to miss the tournament. She underwent a medical procedure to remove skin cancer on Wednesday, January 31. The 25-year-old also underwent a similar treatment in 2021. Lauren will also miss the rest of the Women’s National Cricket League for New South Wales. She took three wickets for 18 in her last outing against ACT and has taken 11 wickets in the season.
“Cheatle is aiming to return to training with NSW following the players’ scheduled off-season break,” a Cricket New South Wales statement said.
Lauren Cheatle made her International debut in 2016 in a T20I against India in Melbourne. She has played seven T20Is and four ODI matches for Australia. She made her Test debut in 2023, marking her first international appearance since 2019 following a run of shoulder injuries. Overall, she has taken seven International wickets.

The Gujarat Giants will be eyeing their maiden Women’s Premier League title in the upcoming season. They finished in the last position in the points table last season, with just two wins from six matches. They signed some talented players at the 2024 WPL auctions, including, Kashvee Gautam, Mannat Kashyap, and Meghna Singh.
