WPL 2024: RCB’s Star Player Ellyse Perry Was Awarded The Shattered Glass She Broke With Her Shot

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, March 15, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Ellyse Perry was awarded a unique trophy made of broken glass pieces by TATA, the title sponsor of WPL.

Named ‘Perry Powerful Punch’, the award commemorated the date when Perry accidentally shattered the window of a Tata Punch EV, which was placed near the boundary line at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

During the 11th match of the 2024 WPL against UP Warriorz in Bengaluru on March 4, RCB batted first and posted a total of 198-3. This was largely due to half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Perry.

While the captain scored 80 runs off 50 balls, Perry contributed 58 runs off 37 balls, featuring four boundaries and an equal number of sixes.

On the second-to-last delivery of the 19th over, Perry struck a massive six off Deepti Sharma’s bowling, hitting the window of the displayed car. This colossal six quickly went viral across the internet and RCB secured victory in that match by a margin of 23 runs.

RCB secured a spot in this year’s Women’s Premier League final by defeating the Mumbai Indians by five runs in the Eliminator on Friday. The championship showdown, set for Sunday, March 17, in Delhi, will feature the two host teams of this year’s tournament battling for the title.

Ellyse Perry earned the Player of the Match award for her performance, scoring 66 runs off 50 balls for RCB, who were struggling at 49-4 in 9.1 overs at one point. Additionally, she recorded figures of 1-29 in four overs with the ball.

Perry’s innings propelled RCB to a competitive total of 135-6. However, the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, failed to chase down the target and ended their innings at 130-6 in 20 overs.
