Former Australian skipper Allan Border has slammed the Indian Premier League and has urged the ICC to let take the World T20 take precedence over local T20 leagues. Border has been always critical of the IPL and has just reiterated his point once again. Border further criticised the IPL as just a way to fill pockets and it being a money-making machine. Speaking to ABC, the former Australian skipper made these staunch remarks on the longest-running franchise T20 competition around the cricketing world.

Ahead of the India series, talking to ABC, Border emphasized on the ICC World T20 to take precedence over local T20 tournaments.

“I’m not happy with that. The world game should take precedence over local competition. So, the World T20, if that can’t go ahead, I don’t think the IPL can go ahead. I would question that decision it’s just a money grab, isn’t it, that one?” Allan Border told ABC.

“The World T20 should take precedence, for sure. The home boards should stop their players going to the IPL if that’s the case,” he further added.

Meanwhile, talking to TOI earlier, Border spoke about his admiration towards Indian skipper Virat Kohli. He said he believes players like Kohli can change the future of Test cricket.

“He [Kohli] is an antagonist and plays aggressively. It is up to players like Kohli and teams like India, England and Australia to keep Test cricket alive from the growing threat of franchise cricket,” Allan Border said.

The Australian skipper kept his side ahead of India in the upcoming Test series. He said that the absence of Kohlo makes Australia firm favorites to win the Test series.

“Very confident of Australia’s chances, especially when playing in Australia,” are his measured words. Obviously, the presence of a quality pace attack, a high-class spinner in Nathan Lyon and the boost to the batting in the form of Steve Smith and David Warner gives Border a justified reason to be confident” Border said.
