WTC 2023: “Hopefully, We Will Be Able To Overcome The Mistakes” – Shubman Gill

In the WTC 2023 final between India and Australia at the Oval in London, which begins on June 7, Shubman Gill will attempt at atonement.

After finishing IPL 2023 as the player who scored the most runs, the right-handed batter said he feels confident using his bat.

The 23-year-old clarified, however, that Test cricket is a different game that, depending on the circumstances, calls for both a defensive and an offensive mindset.

Gill stated to ICC:

“We have been talking about some of the things that playing in that game taught us as a team, especially as a batting unit. Hopefully, we can learn from our previous mistakes”.

He continued:

“It does give you some confidence (from the IPL), but I think this is a completely different situation and a completely different game. But the fun part is that Final week”.

“The challenge and excitement of Test cricket come from the fact that we were playing in a totally different environment with a completely different atmosphere”.

For those who are unfamiliar, Gill had scores of 28 and 8 in the opening 2021 WTC final, which New Zealand won by an eight-wicket margin.

However, the Punjab-born batter has become Team India’s greatest asset before the crucial final.

On the WTC final, Cheteshwar Pujara said, “Hopefully this time we will cross the line”.

With 890 runs in 17 games, three centuries, and four fifty-pluses, Gill was awarded the Orange Cap in the IPL 2023.

Cheteshwar Pujara, a pillar of India’s Test team, is optimistic that Team India will defeat Australia in the WTC final.

In his opinion, the Indian team will benefit from his playing experience in County Cricket and international cricket in England.

Pujara said to the ICC:

“Our planning was excellent. In order to cross the line this time, hopefully. The majority of the guys have played enough cricket to be considered experienced, and some of them have even played county cricket”.

“You require that knowledge, too.  Dot. We have played a lot of cricket against Australia as well as knowing each other’s strengths. The opposition team’s tactics are therefore known to us”.

Similarly to Shubman Gill, Pujara is hitting incredibly well right now. In County Championship Division Two, he performed admirably as Sussex’s captain, scoring 545 runs in eight innings, including three centuries.
