Over the years, Cricket has featured a number of odd and incredibly funny characters, but when it comes to being wildly unconventional, Marnus Labuschagne is hard to beat. With his batting and unpredictable antics, the Australian is able to entertain both supporters and detractors.
On Day 3 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and India on Friday, the latest episode from Labuschagne’s school of eccentricity was on display when the batter was spotted dozing off with his pads on even as he was getting ready to bat in the team’s second innings.
Labuschagne was photographed waking up from his sleep and realizing that he had a job to do after opening batsman David Warner was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for 1 in the fourth over. He collected himself and made his way to the center.
Siraj surprised the batter by striking him twice, once on the body and once on the finger, which literally brought the batter to his knees. The batter was undoubtedly awakened by the fiery deliveries. He focused and made a resolute 41 off 118 balls to return unbeaten.
He was dismissed on Day 4 of the WTC final without increasing his overnight score, which was a huge relief for India. At the conclusion of Day 3 the batter spoke with SEN Cricket about the humorous incident of the cameras catching him dozing off.
“I was just unwinding and relaxing while resting my eyes between balls. You can’t watch the game all the time, so I tried to calm myself down a little. I got up there and woke up pretty quickly. When Siraj pounded that first one in, I hadn’t had many opportunities to rest. ”

Labuschagne had previously amused fans with his eccentric mannerisms prior to his sleeping stunt. We ponder whether he qualifies as cricket’s equivalent of Mr. Bean due to his comical antics.

On Day 3 of the WTC final, Labuschagne did more than just nod off in the locker room. He was observed adjusting his groin guard in between overs on Friday during his innings. He also showed his underpants while doing so.
The fact that his shorts were specially made to honor Australia’s 4-0 Ashes victory over England during the 2021–2022 series caught people’s attention, even though that is not unusual for batters.
The unconventional Australian batter was seen earlier this year requesting a cigarette lighter to fix his helmet. On Day 1 of the third Test in Sydney in January, the strange incident took place.
Usman Khawaja and Labuschagne were playing well together when the latter made a gesture toward the dressing room for a lighter during the stand, shocking both supporters and detractors.
A lighter was brought onto the field in response to Labuschagne’s bizarre request. Without much fuss, the batter continued to bat after using the same to make some repairs to his helmet.
Batters and bowlers have frequently shown good sportsmanship by complimenting each other on a well-placed strike or effective delivery. Contrarily, Labuschagne values complimenting oneself. The No. 1 Ashes team will play in Adelaide for the second Ashes Test of the 2021–22 series.
After dodging a bouncer from England pacer Ben Stokes, the No. 1 Test batter was overheard praising himself. After navigating the short ball, the Australian batter was heard telling himself: on the stump microphone. “Well played, man. “
Labuschagne’s self-motivation paid off as he finished with a magnificent 103 off 305 balls, spending 405 minutes at the crease and hitting eight fours. Australia declared their first innings at 473/9 and went on to win the Test by 275 runs. We wish Marnus Labuschagne continued success with his bat and wit!
