Team India skipper Rohit Sharma reckons winning the World Test Championship final will be the pinnacle achievement for them, as it is the most challenging format. He termed red-ball cricket as the “ultimate” format. The World Test Championship final will get underway on June 7 between India and Australia at The Oval in London.

Ahead of the summit clash, Rohit Sharma addressed questions from the media during a press conference. He expressed that winning the World Test Championship will mean everything to the team. He added that they have put in great effort in the last two years to reach the finals.

“It’ll mean everything to us. This is the ultimate format, the most challenging format. So to come out on top in this particular format will be great because it’s not the effort for a month or two, it’s the effort that we put in for the last few years,” said Rohit Sharma.

“It’s not just the two or three years of rivalry. There’s so much history behind the two teams taking on each other. So that is what makes it more exciting, not just for the players but also for the people who are watching from all parts of the world,” he added.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed that he wants to win championships for the country, and that is what a player plays for. He added that when he steps down as the captain, he would love to go away with a few ICC titles. Rohit Sharma will be leading Team India in the World Test Championship final, as well as the ICC World 50-over World Cup later this year.

“Whether it’s me or someone else, even the guys before, their role was to take Indian cricket forward and win as many games, as many championships as possible. For me also, it will be the same. I want to win games, I want to win championships. That is what you play for,” said Rohit Sharma.

“And yeah, it will be nice to win some titles, win some extraordinary series. But yeah, like having said that, I genuinely feel that we don’t want to put too much pressure on ourselves by overthinking about these kinds of stuff,” he added.

Rohit Sharma further stated, “As a captain, as I said, every captain wants to win championships, So I’ll be no different. I also want to win the championship. And that’s what the sport is all about, winning the championship. So for me, it will be nice if I can win one or two championships, as in when I decide to move on from this job
