Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar opined that the time has come for the off-spin bowler to give match-winning performances in overseas conditions. Manjrekar also repeated his beliefs about Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin that he isn’t a good match in SENA comparing to home conditions or turning conditions, he added Ashwin still needs few Improvements.
Ravichandran Ashwin did a great job on Day 3 of the World Test Championship final after breaking the partnership of New Zealand openers. In a pacer-friendly pitch, the master of, off-spin brilliant got the wicket of opener Tom Latham when he was at a score of 30 and Ashwin gave only 20 runs in the process.
Sanjay Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo:
“He is surely a high-class bowler but I will again tell everyone that he’s a brilliant match-winner on turning pitches in India. But this is his third tour to England – he’s been to Australia three times and twice to South Africa – and here he hasn’t shown a long impactful spell yet to win the game for India. The time has come for Ashwin to do just that.”

After Ravichandran Ashwin got the first breakthrough of the match from the Indian side at the score of 70, soon it was followed by India’s workhorse Ishant Sharma picking a wicket of dangerous Devon Conway and New Zealand finished the day at a score of 101/2 with Ross Taylor and skipper Kane Williamson on the crease.
Ashwin picked up the wicket of Tom Latham like Prasanna, Bedi used to do: Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar said that Ashwin found a new dismissal which was used by legendary Erapalli Prasanna and Bishan Singh Bedi. Where he baited the batsman to drive the ball and got him caught out. He added with no help in pitch Ravichandran Ashwin picked a wicket using good tactics and skills.
“Today’s wicket was absolutely brilliant because he had no help from the wicket and he got the dismissal in a new way. In India, he picks up wickets with the help of short-leg and silly-point. Today, he picked up the wicket like an old-timer, like how Prasanna and Bishan Singh Bedi used to do by luring the batsmen into driving to the covers, mid-off or mid-on. Pitch didn’t had anything for him but despite that, he picked the wicket using a good strategy, tactic, and skills.”
With the help of Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin’s spell, India is trailing by 116 runs and the requires to dismiss 8 Kiwi batsmen before getting a chance to bat again.
That moment when Ashwin and Virat combined to get the first breakthrough for #TeamIndia.
