WTC Final 2023: Ricky Ponting Opines On Shardul Thakur’s Bizarre Arm Precaution

In a humorous move that made Ponting and Karthik on air crack up, Shardul Thakur put on a front arm guard as a warning.

Team India has had a difficult start to the WTC Final, both financially and physically on the field.

After wasting 121 overs in the field bowling to Australia’s batters, the Indian team attempted to bat against an energized Australian lineup but found it difficult to get going.

To make matters worse, the fiery pacers from Australia ended Day 2 by hitting several Indian batters with the red Dukes ball.

Shardul Thakur was forced to hop around in pain by Pat Cummins

KS Bharat was struck twice in one over on his forearm late on day 2. Ajinkya Rahane received blows to his glove, forearm, and helmet for good measure.

Shardul was the target of Pat Cummins’ increased ire this morning. Shardul had entered the playing area facing the Australia captain without any arm guards.

The Indian team physio had to run out to check on Shardul’s bowling arm after the Australian pacer rattled him on the right hand.

The very next delivery struck Shardul even harder, this time striking him in the forearm.

Shardul interpreted this as a warning and put on a front arm guard to protect his bowling arm from Cummins’ ferocious spell.

After a while, Shardul was captured in a hilarious image suddenly sporting arm guards on both arms.

After taking some time to get everything in order, Cummins was once again accurate in this attacking spell of bowling at India’s number eight, striking the bat handle.

Ponting said, “I’ve never seen anything like it. And neither have I,” to which Karthik responded, “Neither have I.”

The pace and bounce from the Australian seamers seemed to have dampened Shardul’s intent.

Shardul is typically a free-flowing batter known for his counter-attacking innings in risky situations.

After Cameron Green of Cummins’ bowling in the next over dropped Shardul, he would be given another chance.

He continues to stand by Ajinkya Rahane as the two work to reduce the Australian total and make sure the follow-on total is not reached.

Particularly Shardul batted with a lot of grit and determination. He added a crucial century partnership with Rahane to give India some hope.
