WTC Final 2023: “Winning The Trophy Isn’t As Simple” Ravi Shastri Gives A Big Statement After India’s Comprehensive Defeat

After India lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final on Day 5, Sunday, June 11, by a score of 209 runs, former captain Ravi Shastri reserved the highest praise for former player MS Dhoni for his three ICC championships.

Winning the ICC trophy is “not easy,” according to the head coach and former cricketer of India. Dhoni “made it look easy,” the former cricket player-turned-commentator continued.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni made winning ICC trophies seem simple, but it’s not that simple.”

Dhoni assisted India in winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. The cricketer, who is from Ranchi, later led the Men in Blue to victories in the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Only two other Indian captains—Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly—have led India to ICC championships. While Ganguly shared the 2002 Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka, Kapil led India to their first-ever ODI World Cup victory in 1983.

Since MS Dhoni’s Champions Trophy victory in 2013, Team India has yet to claim an ICC championship.

Since MS Dhoni resigned as captain, Team India has been unsuccessful in winning an ICC championship. India’s semifinal loss to New Zealand by 18 runs prevented Virat Kohli from taking home the 2019 ODI World Cup trophy.

In the first WTC final of 2021, Team India lost to the same team, and the Kiwis won by an eight-wicket margin.

In addition, Kohli was unable to lead India to victory at the 2021 World Cup as the Men in Blue were eliminated from the competition in the group stage.

The selection committee then appointed five-time IPL winning-captain Rohit Sharma as the skipper in hopes of winning an ICC title. However, Team India was eliminated from the T20 World Cup in 2022 after falling to England by 10 wickets in the semifinals.

Now, India have lost another ICC trophy, i. E. , the ICC 2023 WTC final, under Sharma’s captaincy. Team India will next turn their attention to the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup that will be held at home later this year.
