Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri was critical of Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara’s dismissals on the fourth day of the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. He expressed that the duo must be kicking themselves for their shot selection during the all-important game.

Chasing 444 runs in the fourth innings, Team India has lost three wickets for 164 runs at the end of day four. Skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara are back in the pavilion. Rohit Sharma was dismissed off Nathan Lyon, playing a sweep shot for 43 runs. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara off a bouncer. The Indian cricketer tried to play a ramp shot, but instead edged the ball to the keeper.

Following the fourth day’s play, Ravi Shastri criticised Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara’s shot selection. Speaking on Star Sports, he said,

“You know what’s amazed me though is the way that the pitch has behaved. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara will be kicking themselves for playing the shots that they played. They were poor shots when they were batting beautifully.”

Former head coach Ravi Shastri is hopeful of India’s victory in the World Test Championship final against Australia. He expressed that cricket has witnessed strange things in the past. Shastri added that the pitch has eased out, but the first hour will be crucial on the fifth day.

“Very much a possibility. This game shows us strange things. It has to be a world record chase,” said Ravi Shastri.

“The pitch has eased out, the sting is gone, and it made batting a lot easier. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have been in no trouble whatsoever. They batted beautifully and scored quite easily. It is about coming out tomorrow and weathering the storm in the first hour, that will be crucial for me,” he added.
