Team India pacer Mohammed Shami is confident of victory against Australia in the ongoing World Test Championship final, heading into the fifth day at the Kennington Oval in London. The Indian team has a tough task on hand, needing 280 runs on the final day to win the summit clash. They have seven wickets in hand, with Virat Kohl and Ajinkya Rahane at the crease.

Team India finished day four at 164 runs for the loss of three wickets. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 43 runs, while his opening partner, Shubman Gill managed 18 runs. The other dismissal was of Cheteshwar Pujara. Veteran batter Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will resume the innings for the team on day five. Despite losing three wickets, and a mountain to climb, the Indian team is confident of their chances.

Speaking at the press conference after the end of day four, Mohammed Shami expressed that they believe they will pull off a win on the final day. He said,

“100 per cent of everyone believes that tomorrow we will win the match. Because we have always fought. We perform well around the world. Not here only. So, we believe and we always come together to win this match.”

Team India batter Virat Kohli is unbeaten on 44 runs, while Ajinkya Rahane is on 20 runs. KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur will follow the duo in the batting order. With 280 runs needed on the final day, Mohammed Shami feels keeping small goals will help the batters. He expressed that it is not a big score, and if they approach normally, India should win the game.

“According to me, if you bat well, 280 runs – is not a big score. So, according to me, you should bat normally in a Test match. You should focus on playing ball by ball. You should not look at the long target. So, according to me, the chances of success are higher there. When you keep small goals and targets, you will get more success. So, according to me, you should play normally,” said Mohammed Shami.
