Kyle Jamieson, who joined Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2021, got his RCB skipper Virat Kohli out on Day 3 with a perfect inswinger. The New Zealand pacer had an interesting banter with the India captain during their stint together during the T20 tournament.

As play started 30 minutes late on an overcast Sunday morning at the Ageas Bowl, Kohli was looking good for a big one. He was once again tight in defense and leaving the balls outside his off-stump well. However, it was his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate, Jamieson who looked likely to dislodge the dodgy start.

With the first delivery of his spell on Sunday, the in-form pacer troubled Kohli as the India skipper nearly let the ball roll onto the stumps. He then kept bowling a couple of out-swingers, which Kohli comfortably left. However, he brought back one in and trapped Kohli LBW. As Jamieson went up in appeal, umpire Michael Gough took his time before raising the dreaded finger. Kohli took the review but the replays showed 3 reds.

Here is how Twitter reacted after Kyle Jamieson dismissed Virat Kohli:

The Indian skipper was willing to grind it out even as he was not able to move the scoreboard at pace. On Saturday, Kohli showcased superb control and there were very little false shots until the RCB captain fell in trap of his IPL teammate.

When Jamieson turned down Virat Kohli’s offer to bowl at him at RCB

In fact, Jamieson has refused to bowl to Virat Kohli with the Dukes ball during their stint at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. Kohli had asked Jamieson if he wanted to have a bowl at him with the Dukes ball (which Jamieson carried with him to the IPL) and the New Zealand pacer seems to have refused his captain’s offer with a cheeky comment.

Their RCB teammate Dan Christian, in a chat show with The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel, revealed an entertaining and thoughtful conversation between the two cricketers during the first week of IPL 2021, which was suspended due to Covid-19 concerns in May.

“Pretty cagey from Virat actually, right in the first week we were here. The three of us were sitting down after the nets and these two were talking about Test cricket.

“Virat said: ‘So Jamie (Kyle Jamieson) have you bowled much with the Dukes ball?’ and they are talking about that stuff.

“Jamie says: ‘Yeah, I have a couple of them here, I will have a bowl leading in before I go over there’ and Virat says ‘Oh, if you want to have a bowl against me in the nets, I am more than happy to face’.

“Jamie was like, ‘No chance I am going to ball at you!’

“He would have looked at his release point and everything that he does with the Dukes ball.” said Dan Christian.

Kyle Jamieson has been a top-class addition to the New Zealand side ever since his debut in 2020. He also removed Rishabh Pant for 4 shortly after getting Kohi to dent India on Day 3. Jamieson has picked up 42 wickets in just 8 matches, the most by a New Zealand pacer in their first 8.
