Young batting prodigy Yash Dhull has been named Delhi’s captain for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Senior fast bowler Ishant Sharma and all-rounder Nitish Rana have been picked in the squad as well.
Dhull has been trusted with the job in less than a year’s time he led India to the U19 World Cup title. It will also be his ninth Ranji Trophy game and one of the young players to lead the Delhi Ranji Trophy side.
As per reports, the DDCA brass wanted to carry out the tough transition from this season and Dhull, by virtue of being one of the most consistent performers and someone with leadership acumen, has been handed over the reins.
“Somewhere we had to draw the line, we need to carry out a transition,” a source close to the DDCA selection committee told PTI. “Pradeep Sangwan, the last year’s captain, had to be dropped as he hasn’t been measuring up.”
Yash Dhull amassed 820 runs in eight matches at an average of 74.54, including four centuries.
The selectors will also want veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma to shoulder some additional responsibilities alongside Yash Dhull.
“Ishant has also been given a couple of games. Let’s hope he shoulders more responsibility,” the source said.
Delhi have picked up their squad for the first two games and the teams for the remaining matches will be picked subsequently.
