The young batsman from Punjab, Shubman Gill is the next big thing in Indian cricket. The selectors fast-tracked him into the national side following his meteoric rise after the U-19 World Cup. Recently, Shubman Gill recalled a funny incident when all-rounder Hardik Pandya tried to sledge him.
Gill was instrumental in helping Prithvi Shaw-led India lift the U-19 World title. He played a match-winning knock in the summit clash against Australia. Soon, Kolkata Knight Riders roped him in the IPL. Shubman Gill recently made his ODI debut against New Zealand.
When Hardik tried to sledge Shubman Gill
The 20-year-old has a good technique and temperament in place. Meanwhile, he had to work hard to make his way into the big stage. Gill also faced a good share of sledging in domestic cricket. Recently, Shubman Gill recalled an incident when Hardik Pandya tried to sledge him. The incident took place in 2017 when Punjab was playing an ODI game against Baroda.
“It was my first year of the Ranji Trophy season and we were playing a one-day against Baroda. And I remember Hardik bowling to me. He kept on sledging me and I don’t know for what reason,” Gill said in the video posted by KKR.
“I tried to hit him on the up and the ball went straight to the fielder. Then he kept saying, ‘Ae chal na maar na! Chal na ye 19 nahi hai ye. Chal na maar na’ (Come on hit me, this is not Under-19 cricket, hit me!),” Gill further added.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill continues to grow and is currently waiting for the lockdown to get over. So far, he has so far played two ODIs for India where he managed to score only 16 runs. The youngster also earned a Test call-up against South Africa but didn’t make through the playing XI.
