Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh did not hold back in criticizing ex-Pakistani spinner Saqlain Mushtaq for his controversial remarks on the Indian cricket team. Saqlain had suggested that if India truly considers itself a top team, it should compete against Pakistan in 10 Test matches, 10 ODIs, and 10 T20Is to determine which team is superior.
His statement sparked widespread backlash, with many dismissing it as baseless. In response, Yograj Singh firmly rejected Saqlain’s claim, suggesting that Pakistan should first try competing against India’s ‘B’ team before making such challenges.
“I read Saqlain’s comment, and I don’t understand what he is trying to achieve. They don’t know how to appreciate good cricket; they just talk. Many mouths have been shut now. They haven’t learned in 78 years, so what can I teach them?” Yograj told ANI. He further criticized Pakistan’s cricketing structure and suggested that the country should take inspiration from India’s governance and cricket administration.
Pakistan’s Struggles in Major ICC Events
While India celebrated another remarkable victory, Pakistan continued to struggle in major cricket tournaments. Their campaign in the ICC event ended prematurely as they were eliminated in the group stage for the third consecutive time. The tournament was significant for Pakistan as it marked the return of a global cricket event to their home soil after 29 years. However, the occasion turned sour as New Zealand, fresh off a successful tri-nation series, outclassed them with a dominant 60-run victory.
With their chances of advancing rapidly diminishing, Pakistan’s match against India became a must-win affair. However, the team failed to rise to the occasion, delivering a lackluster performance in Dubai. Their fate was then left in the hands of Bangladesh, who needed to defeat New Zealand for Pakistan to stay in contention. But the Kiwis proved too strong, securing a five-wicket win that sealed both Bangladesh’s and Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.
A Fresh Start for Pakistan Cricket
Following their disappointing campaign, Pakistan decided to take drastic measures by overhauling their white-ball squad in preparation for future ICC events. Their final match in the tournament against Bangladesh was abandoned due to heavy rain, bringing a disappointing end to their campaign. The team’s inability to perform in high-pressure situations raised concerns about their approach to international cricket, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to consider significant changes.
While India continued to dominate world cricket, Pakistan found itself in a cycle of underperformance, struggling to match up to the best teams in crucial tournaments. Yograj Singh’s sharp remarks underscored this ongoing disparity, further fueling debates about Pakistan’s cricketing future.
