“You Have To Blame The T20 Cricket Going Around The World”- AB de Villiers On India And South Africa Not Playing A Three-Match Test Series

AB de Villiers expressed disappointment at the limited two-Test series between India and South Africa, emphasizing the significance of preserving Test cricket despite financial considerations tied to the success of the SA20 league.

The series concluded in a 1-1 draw, with Cricket South Africa aiming for financial success while de Villiers underscores the need for special measures to uphold Test cricket.

In a video on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers shared his thoughts on the two-match Test series at the 30:15 mark.

“I am not happy with the fact that there’s not a third Test. You have to blame the T20 cricket going around the world for that.”

”I don’t know exactly whom to blame but I definitely sense something is wrong. If you want to see all the teams compete and see who is the best Test team in the world, something has to change.”

AB de Villiers wasn’t surprised by the pitch in Cape Town

The pitch in Cape Town for the second Test between India and South Africa faced significant criticism as the match concluded in less than two days, marking the shortest Test in terms of overs bowled in cricket history.

Despite this, AB de Villiers wasn’t surprised by the pitch, suggesting that it becomes more favorable for batting after navigating the initial session carefully. He mentioned this viewpoint at the 30:53 mark.

“It (Cape Town) was a pretty stock-standard wicket in my opinion. I remember jumping around there on Day 1. If you can just get through the first session on Day 1, it gets easier. If you see the players who were playing their shots and not hanging around, they were the ones doing well.”

“I remember Ben Stokes scoring a double hundred there. I myself scored some hundreds there. You can’t allow bowlers like Philander, Bumrah, Siraj, Rabada to keep bowling on off-stump.”

Aiden Markram’s outstanding century in Cape Town exemplified the aggressive batting style that AB de Villiers mentioned. However, the unexpected excessive bounce from a good length surprised many, including the home side captain Dean Elgar, who expressed that he had never witnessed such a wicket at that venue before.
