Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir lauded Hardik Pandya’s captaincy in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. He opined that the Indian skipper hasn’t done anything wrong in the series, and should not be judged after every game. The T20I series is leveled at 1-1 after Team India lost the second match by 16 runs.

The Indian bowlers bowled as many as seven no-balls in the game. This helped Sri Lankan batters, who put on 206 runs and eventually defended the target. Gautam Gambhir expressed that the captain cannot control the bowlers from bowling no-balls. Speaking after the game to the host broadcaster Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir praised Hardik Pandya, saying that he has been good as a captain for Team India so far. The former Indian cricketer said,

“He has been good. You should not judge people after every game. Because India has lost the game, doesn’t mean that he has done anything wrong. He can’t control the bowlers by not bowling no-balls. It’s the responsibility of the bowler.”

Hardik Pandya has an aggressive mindset: Gautam Gambhir

Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya has led the team in seven T20Is so far. Gautam Gambhir further expressed that the all-rounder has an aggressive mindset. He added that Hardik Pandya has led the side well in his short India captaincy career so far. The former Indian cricketer also stated that Hardik Pandya backs his players, which is an important sign. He said,

“I think so far whatever he has captained the side, he has done really well. He looks really relaxed. He has an aggressive mindset. He backs his players, those small-small signs are very important. He keeps everything pretty relaxed as well.”

The third T20I between India and Sri Lanka will take place on Saturday, January 7 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
