Yuvraj Singh And Chris Gayle Likely To Play For Melbourne-based Mulgrave Cricket Club

Former Star India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is likely to play in Australia. According to reports he has been in “negotiations” with a Melbourne-based community cricket club; Mulgrave Cricket Club to play cricket matches for them this summer in a third-tier cricket tournament.

President of the Mulgrave Cricket club; Malin Pullenayegam said that they are “85 to 90 percent” done with acquiring Yuvraj Singh in the team for playing cricket for them. Also, the club is reportedly not only adding All-rounder Yuvraj Singh in the line-up, but they are also planning to add legendary players like Ab De Villiers, Brian Lara, and Chris Gayle to play for them.

Mulgrave Cricket Club, plays in Melbourne’s Eastern Cricket Association (ECA), The competition that came into the limelight when they acquired former Sri Lankan cricketers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga in the team to represent them on the field, Dilshan has now settled in Melbourne and he also played six matches for the club during last summer’s competition. They have now already added Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya as their head coach.

“We’ve secured Dilshan, we’ve secured Sanath, we’ve secured Tharanga. We are now working on finalizing agreements with a few other potential players and are in negotiations, and with Chris (Gayle) and Yuvraj Singh, we are nearly 85 to 90 percent there. We need to finalize a few things but it looks really good,” Pullenayegam told cricket.com.au.

“While here we want to put them in contact with our sponsors and see if they can give something back to the club and sponsors. So it’s all part of the negotiations and chats we are having with them.”

Meanwhile, the club is also looking for more sponsors for the tournament to back them up financially so that they can provide every service to the International cricketers.

“We are still looking for more sponsors to back us up, there is a fair financial commitment for a local cricket club. It’s a process, with these big-name players there’s a lot of things we need to incorporate into their visits to Australia: we’ll provide them with accommodation, their travel, food etcetera, there is a lot of background stuff we need to organize for them,” he added.

In The ECA’s T20 Cup fans will see 3 preliminary matches and after that, a knock-out phase consisting of 3 more games, and all these games are scheduled to take place between one or two days between November and February.

Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara both have played cricket after retiring, they feature in the Road Safety Series which happened in India in 2021 also they played last year in a charity event to raise funds for Australia’s bush fire in February during a match between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI.
