Former cricketer, Yuvraj Singh has come out in support of Ravi Shastri’s idea of a three-match series to decide the winner of the ICC World Test Championship. The southpaw believes that a best of three games should be an ideal way to decide the winner.

He further said that New Zealand would have an edge over India as they are currently playing in a Test series in England. India, on the other hand, landed in the UK on Thursday and last played a Test series in England three years ago.

“I feel in a situation like this, there should be a best of 3 Tests, because if you lose the first one then you can come back in the next two. India will have a slight disadvantage because New Zealand is already playing Test cricket in England. There are 8-10 practice sessions but there’s no substitute for match practice. It will be an even contest but New Zealand will have an edge,” Yuvraj Singh was quoted by News 18.

Rohit and Gill have never opened in England – Yuvraj Singh

Reports have emerged that Rohit Sharma is likely to partner with Shubman Gill ahead of Mayank Agarwal for the ICC World Test Championship final. The southpaw has also highlighted the fact that both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have never opened in England in Tests, which could become a concern for India.

“Rohit Sharma is very experienced now in Test matches. He has almost 7 hundreds, 4 hundreds as an opener. But both Rohit and Shubman Gill have not opened in England ever,” he said.

While heaping praise on the current Indian Test side, Yuvraj Singh said that Virat Kohli and Co. might struggle as the conditions in England would be a lot different than the subcontinent. He further pressed on the matter that India will have no game time behind their back heading into this important clash.

“I feel India is very strong because lately, they have been performing really well away from home. They have the belief that they can win anywhere. But conditions in England will be different, then there’s the Dukes’ cricket ball,” Yuvraj said.
