Zakir Hasan showed his temperament and character to score his century on his Test debut on the fourth day of the 1st Test match against strong Indian bowling played at Zahur Chaudhary Stadium, Chattorgam on 17 December 2022.
Chasing down a massive target of 513 runs to win, Zakir Hossain looked composed against the Indian bowling putting bad deliveries away for boundaries on 3rd day. His defense was rock solid keeping and showing his class against Ashwin, Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav. Right before the lunch break, Hossain completed fifty off 101 balls as Bangladesh went into lunch break at 119 for 0.
The Indian bowling improved with his tactics doing different things. Umesh Yadav got the breakthrough dismissing Shanto as Kohli and Pant took a rebound catch. Shanto and Hossain added 124 runs for the opening wicket.
Bangladesh lost another wicket quickly as Yasir Ali was bowled by Axar Patel. Liton Das lost his patience providing a simple catch to Umesh Yadav as the hosts went into the tea break at 176 for 3 with Zakir Hossain on 82.

Soon after the tea break, Hossain showed aggression against Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav with aggressive shots. He completed his maiden Test century off 219 balls before being dismissed the next ball with an inside edge to Virat Kohli at slips. It was a superb knock by Hossain who looked his class against top-quality Indian bowling. Despite his brilliance, Bangladesh ended the 4th day at 272 for 6 still needing 241 runs to win with Mehidy and Shakib AL Hasan at the crease.
Zakir Hossain played an impressive knock against India A and got a chance in the first Test match. Mohammed Siraj dismissed him for 20 runs in the first innings.
