Mohammad Kaif Reveals The Strategy Of Delhi Capitals For The IPL Auction

Mohammad Kaif believes the IPL auction is all about being flexible and all plans can change at the auction table. The assistant coach of Delhi Capitals also revealed the plan of action of the franchise for the game-changing IPL auction.

The Delhi Capitals management led by coach Ricky Ponting has done a fine job in creating a core group of Indian players. Ahead of the auction Kaif asserted that the franchise will be looking to add a solid backup of players and take spontaneous decisions at the IPL auction table.

Flexibility is the key in the IPL auction- Mohammad Kaif

The IPL 2020 finalists released the likes of Alex Carey, Keemo Paul, Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mohit Sharma, and Jason Roy and retained as many as 17 players. Kaif hinted that the franchise will not go for big players in the auction but will be looking to acquire backup players in the IPL auction.

“We have released a few players, so we will be looking to fill those gaps. I think flexibility is the key in the auction. One can have all the plans for the auction, but things can change on the auction table. We have to make spontaneous decisions. Our main players have been playing continuously and there are no fitness issues as well. So, we’ll be looking to acquire some back-up players in tomorrow’s auction,” Kaif said to India Today.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals’ second assistant coach Pravin Amre declared that they already have a settled unit and will continue to back their core players who have performed well in the last few seasons.

“To be honest, if we are asked to play tomorrow also, we have a playing XI ready with us, so I think that’s the successful planning, and that’s what we learned from other teams also, who back their core for a long time,” Amre added.
