Chennai Super Kings have made the worst start to their IPL 2020 campaign losing two out of their three matches. The absence of Ambati Rayudu has hurt their batting line-up the most. Speaking at the end of the game against Delhi Capitals, MS Dhoni shared an update on the return of Rayudu.

Incidentally, the veteran batsman from Hyderabad made an emphatic start to IPL 2020 playing a match-winning knock against defending champions Mumbai Indians. He played a fine knock of 71 runs from 48 deliveries to steer Chennai after early hiccups.

But Ambati Rayudu suffered a hamstring pull leading to the second game which ruled him out from Rajasthan match. The injury aggravated and Rayudu had to give the recently-concluded Delhi Capitals game also a miss. With the absence of Suresh Raina, Rayudu is a key campaigner in Chennai’s batting.

His absence has cost them badly and the batting unit looked completely out of socks. As Chennai regroup themselves in the next seven games before their next game, MS Dhoni revealed that Ambati Rayudu will be back in action. He also said Rayudu’s return will give them the flexibility to play an extra bowler.

“The team balance will get better once Rayudu comes back in the next game. That will give us the room to experiment with an extra bowler perhaps,” Dhoni said at the end of the match.

Meanwhile, the ongoing campaign holds greater significance for Ambati Rayudu as he aims to make a comeback to the national team. He has remained absent from squad since his exclusion from the World Cup squad, which copped severe criticisms.

Since then a lot has happened with Ambati Rayudu announcing his retirement and them coming out of it again. His main aim will be to prove the last batch of selectors and make his way back to the national side again.
