The 2022 T20 World Cup has reached the business end with the winner to be decided on Sunday, November 13. So far, the tournament has witnessed many terrific performances, with several candidates for the Player of the tournament award. The ICC recently revealed nine shortlisted candidates for the award. England skipper Jos Buttler picked Suryakumar Yadav from the list as his Player of the Tournament.
The Indian middle-order batter is the third-leading run-scorer in the tournament so far. In six innings, he has scored 239 runs at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68, including three half-centuries. Suryakumar Yadav was the backbone of the Indian batting attack at the T20 World Cup. He played the finisher’s role well, batting in the middle order.
In an interview with Sanjana Ganesan for the International Cricket Council, England skipper Jos Buttler hailed the Indian cricketer. He expressed that Suryakumar Yadav has been “incredibly eye-catching to watch”. Buttler said,
“I think Suryakumar Yadav. For me, has been someone who’s played with extreme freedom. He’s been incredibly eye-catching to watch in such a star-studded line-up. To stand out the way he has is amazing.”
Sam Curran and Alex Hales can be the Player of the Tournament if they put in great performances in the final: Jos Buttler
The England skipper Jos Buttler further also added that his teammates Sam Curran and Alex Hales too could win the Player of the Tournament award. Hales has been England’s leading run-scorer so far, with 211 runs in five matches. On the other hand, Sam Curran has been very effective with the ball, bagging 10 wickets so far. Buttler expressed,
“Of course, there’s a couple of our guys on that sheet as well – Sam Curran and Alex Hales. If they put in a great performance in the final, they can be the Player of the Tournament for me.”
The England cricket team will be taking on Pakistan in the finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup on Sunday, November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
