T20 World Cup 2021 turned out to be a nightmare for Team India. India were considered a strong contender for the title given their star-studded lineup in the UAE along with the likes of Australia, Pakistan, and England.

However, the Men in Blue bowed out in the first round as they lost consecutive matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. India’s team selection was held largely responsible for the poor performance.

Another T20 World Cup beckons Rohit Sharma and Co. in a few weeks’ time. India will hope to improve on their performances when the top teams meet in Australia next month. In this article, we are going to look at three players who did not get a place in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 due to their poor performance in the 2021 World Cup.

#1 Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy performed brilliantly in IPL 2020 and 2021. In fact, there were various debates about Varun’s inclusion in the World Cup squad, but he had an X-factor for his mystery spin.

In the first match against Pakistan, Varun conceded 33 runs in four overs, however, he failed to get a single wicket. In the second match against New Zealand, he conceded only 23 runs in 4 overs, but here too he failed to get a wicket.

After this performance, Varun was dropped for the next match against Afghanistan, but he made a comeback in the match against Scotland, but failed to pick up a wicket in that match as well and was never included in the Indian squad again.

#2 Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur was included in the main squad from the reserves before the start of the T20 World Cup 2021. Everyone expected wickets from Shardul when the Indian team was under pressure. Unfortunately for the Men in Blue, he also failed to perform well.

After the loss against Pakistan, Shardul was given an opportunity to play in the match against New Zealand. However, he failed both batting and bowling. Due to this poor performance along with the emergence of Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh, Shardul has not been given a chance in World Cup 2022.

#3 Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar was given a chance in the T20 World Cup 2021 ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal. This decision of the selection committee was heavily criticized on social media.

Chahar only got an opportunity in the match against Namibia and he did not manage to produce a special performance in it. Due to the poor performance of the Indian team, Yuzvendra Chahal returned to the team and Chahar did not get a chance again.
