SunRisers Hyderabad are reportedly planning to release Heinrich Klaasen before the IPL 2026 Auction, as per The Times of India. The South African wicketkeeper-batter was retained for a hefty ₹23 crore ahead of IPL 2025, but despite a strong season with 487 runs in 13 innings at an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 172.69, SRH may still let him go.

His departure would free up a large amount of money in their purse as they look to rebuild after finishing sixth in 2025, a drop after reaching the final in 2024. Klaasen’s release could spark interest from several franchises in need of a powerful middle-order batter and a reliable overseas wicketkeeping option.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Kolkata Knight Riders could be one of the strongest contenders for Klaasen. Their opening slot is not a major concern, with options like Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Sunil Narine available. However, their middle order lacked impact last sseason.

Quinton de Kock struggled with 152 runs from eight innings, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz made 74 runs in five games. Klaasen, with his ability to attack in the middle overs, would bring stability and power. With Rinku Singh scoring 206 runs and Andre Russell managing 167, Klaasen’s presence would ease the pressure on both and deepen KKR’s batting strength.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

Gujarat Titans were heavily dependent on their top three in 2025. Sai Sudharsan (759), Shubman Gill (650), and Jos Buttler (538) carried the bulk of their scoring, while the middle order underperformed. Sherfane Rutherford made 291 runs, Shahrukh Khan contributed 179, and Rahul Tewatia struggled with just 99. GT clearly needs a destructive finisher who can maintain momentum. Klaasen’s aggressive style and consistency make him an ideal fit to solve their lower-order issues and bring balance to the lineup.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings are another team where Klaasen could slot in perfectly. Their batting lacked depth in IPL 2025, especially in the lower order. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were not at their best with the bat, and the team lacked a big-hitting finisher.

Klaasen, known for his dominance against spin and clean power-hitting, suits Chennai’s conditions well. With Dhoni’s retirement uncertain, CSK would also get a long-term wicketkeeper-batter who can take charge in the post-Dhoni era. Having already played 49 IPL matches and scoring 1480 runs at an average of 40 with a strike rate of 169.72, Klaasen brings both experience and explosiveness.
