West Indies displayed remarkable grit and determination on Day 4 of the second Test against India in Delhi. Despite being on the back foot, the visitors fought hard to take the match into the final day.
After being asked to follow on, they started the fourth day at 173/2 and went on to score a strong 390 before being bowled out in 118.5 overs, taking a 120-run lead. John Campbell and Shai Hope led the fightback with superb centuries, while Roston Chase (40), Justin Greaves (50*), and Jayden Seales (32) made valuable contributions.
India were set a target of 121 runs, and though they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan took them to 63/1 by stumps, needing 58 more for victory. Here are the four major milestones the West Indies achieved on Day 4.
4. Fifth West Indies Batter To Reach Maiden Test hundred With A Six
Opener John Campbell produced a splendid performance, scoring his maiden Test century. His knock of 115 runs came from 199 balls and included 12 fours and three sixes. The highlight of his innings came when he brought up his hundred with a six off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling on the fifth ball of the 58th over.
With this feat, Campbell became only the fifth West Indian batter to score his maiden Test hundred with a six, joining Collins King, Robert Samuels, Ridley Jacobs, and Shane Dowrich. Interestingly, among West Indies openers, he took the second-most innings (48) to achieve his maiden Test century, showing the perseverance he displayed throughout his innings.
3. Most Innings Between Two Test Hundreds For West Indies
Shai Hope finally ended an eight-year wait for a Test century, a feat that reflected both resilience and patience. He reached his hundred with a boundary off Mohammed Siraj’s delivery in the 83rd over. Hope had last scored twin centuries against England in 2017, and since then, he had gone without a Test hundred until this match.
With this century, Hope set a new record for the most innings between two Test hundreds by a West Indian batter — 58 innings between 2017 and 2025. The previous record was held by Jermaine Blackwood, who took 47 innings between his 2015 and 2020 hundreds.
2. Fourth-Highest 10th Wicket Partnership Against India In India
The final-wicket stand between Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales was another highlight of the day. Together, they added 79 runs from 132 balls, frustrating the Indian bowlers and extending the West Indies’ lead beyond 100 runs.
Their partnership now stands as the fourth-highest 10th wicket stand against India in India. The record for the highest remains with Pakistan’s Zulfiqar Ahmed and Amir Elahi, who added 104 runs in Chennai in 1952.
1. Two West Indies Batters Scoring Hundreds In The same Test Against India In India
John Campbell and Shai Hope’s centuries made history as this was only the third time two West Indian batters scored hundreds in the same Test against India in India. The last instance occurred in 1974, when Gordon Greenidge (107) and Clive Lloyd (163) achieved the feat in Bengaluru.
The first time it happened was way back in 1948-49, when legends Everton Weekes (101) and Clyde Walcott (108) struck hundreds in Kolkata. This rare occurrence once again highlighted the Caribbean team’s ability to rise to the occasion against strong opposition.
