Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah took his eighth five-wicket haul in the red-ball format on Sunday. The pacer led India’s bowling attack, to dismiss Sri Lanka for a paltry 109 runs in the first innings of the ongoing D/N Test match at Bengaluru.
Sanjana Ganeshan, Jasprit Bumrah’s wife and TV presenter congratulated the Indian speedster on Twitter. Jasprit gave India the early breakthrough, dismissing Kushal Mendis in the third over of the match for 2 runs. Mendis tried to play a drive, but the ball swung away taking the outside edge of his bat.
The Sri Lankan batting could not recover from the early blow as Bumrah dismissed Thirimanne soon after. Thirimanne chased a back-of-a-length delivery and gave a simple catch to Shreyas Iyer. Angelo Matthews and Lasith Embuldeniya were Jasprit Bumrah’s next two victims.
Rohit Sharma took a brilliant catch to dismiss Angelo Matthews, while Embuldeniya was caught by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. Bumrah dismissed Niroshan Dickwella to complete his eight five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. This also marked Bumrah’s first five-wicket haul in Test cricket in India.
India has taken a first-innings lead of 143 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami took two wickets each, along with Jasprit Bumrah’s fifer.
Earlier in the match, India put on 252 runs in the first innings, on the back of Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant 92 runs. Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma are at the crease for India in the second innings.
