Sri Lanka will begin their new year locking horns with a tough Indian side led by the Virat Kohli when they tour India for a three-match T20I series. They have brought back veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews for the series captained by fast bowler Lasith Malinga which starts from January 5 (Sunday).
Mathews, who has struggled with injuries in recent times, has not played any T20I match since August 2018. Moreover, the injury has also kept him away from bowling in games. The 32-year-old will look to make this journey memorable and lead his side from the front with the bat. Angelo Mathews has rich experiences that will come in handy for the youngsters as Sri Lanka continue to build a strong team with ICC T20 World Cup looming large.

Sri Lanka look to produce a better result
On the other hand, pacer Nuwan Pradeep sustained an injury during practice and has not toured with the visiting team. The 26-year-old fast bowler Kasun Rajitha has replaced Pradeep in the squad for the series against India. Sri Lanka have blown hot and cold in recent times with their performances and will hope to put up a better show.
They handed Pakistan a 3-0 whitewash when they toured the country with a second-string side but suffered loses by an identical result when they took on Australia only a couple of weeks later. The Islanders will have to show characters against an indomitable Indian side.

The three-match T20Is series will kick-off in Guwahati on January 5, followed by games in Indore (January 7) and Pune (January 10).
