Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals have appointed veteran New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi as their spin bowling consultant. He will also work as the operations executive for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league. Notably, Sodhi was a part of the squad in 2018 and 2019.

Rajasthan, who won the prestigious title in the inaugural season in 2008, will be keen to bring home their second trophy when the tournament sets off in April. As a result, they have picked the strongest possible squad during the auctions and are trying to add quality support staff to provide the best facilities to their players. As a result, Rajasthan Royals have roped in the services of Ish Sodhi.

Ish Sodhi appointed as Rajasthan”s spin consultant

The 27-year-old will work with Royals” spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahatule and Chief Operating Officer Jake Lush McCrum. The head of Royals Cricket Zubin Bharucha welcomed Sodhi, who has 40 T20Is to his name. Along with congratulating Ish Sodhi on his new association, Zubin also urged the cricket fans to rally behind Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2020.

“We are very happy to welcome back Ish to the Royals family in his new role. The induction of Ish in this dual role demonstrates the Royals” commitment to recognise and reward young talent to develop into masters in their field of work. I congratulate Ish on his new stint and wish every cricket fan across the globe gets behind the team when Rajasthan Royals kicks off its new season this summer,” Bharucha said.

Ish Sodhi will work with the likes of Mayank Markande and Shreyas Gopal- the leg-spinners along with a few all-rounders, namely Aniruddha Joshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mahipal Lomror. The Kiwi cricketer seemed excited about the new role and wants to help Rajasthan Royals win this IPL.

“I am delighted to be taking on this new challenge at Rajasthan Royals with this dual role. Having played for two seasons for the Royals, I have formed a great level of understanding with all the people involved with the franchise, and they have always been very supportive of me. Therefore, I did not have to think twice when this opportunity was offered to me by the Royals” management. I love this franchise and want to help us win the IPL this year,” Sodhi said of his association.
