The promising batsman from Punjab, Shubman Gill, who grabbed headlines for showing dissent during a Ranji Trophy game, has been fined 100 percent of his match fees. Notably, Gill refused to walk off the field after adjudged out by the on-field umpires during Punjab”s game against Delhi at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Delhi”s Dhruv Shorey also received a sanction of 50 percent of his match fees.
The incident occurred during day two of Punjab”s tie with Delhi when Shubman Gill refused to go out after being given out caught-behind off Subodh Bhati’s. Gill was involved in a heated argument with debutant umpire Mohammed Rafi at the bowling end. The decision was later overturned after Rafi consulted square-leg umpire, Paschim Pathak. This led to a halt in the game for at least ten minutes.

A Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) official confirmed the news and also revealed that the 20-year-old Shubman Gill had accepted the sanction.
“Shubman has been fined 100 per cent of his match fees. He had accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee P Ranganathan. It was an unfortunate incident where he lost his cool, and he is really sorry for his behavior,” a Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) official told TOI.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been a regular in India A squad and was also a part of the Test series against Bangladesh. He will also be leading India ‘A’ in the two tour matches and three one-day games in New Zealand and is also a part of the India ‘A’ squad for two four-day games.

Delhi captain Dhruv Shorey also received a fine of 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching a Level 1 offence as the tourists refused to take the field in protest against the reversal of Shubman’s dismissal. However, after an intervention from the match referee, the play resumed again. The match ended in a draw with Delhi taking home three points courtesy their first-innings lead.
