Australian opener David Warner revealed his retirement plans ahead of the World Test Championship final against Team India, which will take place from June 7 to June 11 at The Oval in London. He expressed that he wants to bid adieu to Test cricket at his home ground at the Sydney Cricket Ground, next year against Pakistan.
David Warner made his Test debut for Australia against New Zealand in December 2011. He has played 103 Test matches so far, scoring 8158 runs at an average of 45.57. The left-handed batter has twenty-five centuries to his name, with thirty-four half-centuries. He is gearing up for the World Test Championship final, and the Ashes series.
Speaking to the reporters, ahead of the final, David Warner said,
“I’ve always said the (2024 T20) World Cup will be my final game, but I think I probably owe it to myself and my family,” Warner said.
“If I can score runs here, and continue to play back in Australia, I can say I won’t be playing that West Indies (Test) series. If I get through this and I can make the Pakistan series, I will definitely finish up then,” he added.

Australian batter David Warner is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the World Test Championship final against Team India. He expressed that he is also ready for the Ashes series. The opener added that he plays every match as it if it is his last, and works pretty hard on his game. David Warner said,
“I’ve always played every game as if it’s my last. It’s my style of cricket. I just keep working as hard as I can to get to there. It starts this Test against India and I’m just looking forward to that challenge and then the challenge that presents itself against England.”
