Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are preparing themselves for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies by engaging in a rigorous practice session against bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj, and Jaydev Unadkat.
This series is of particular importance to the Indian players as it follows their defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia last month.
Furthermore, this series marks the beginning of the third cycle of the WTC, potentially introducing some fresh faces to the Indian team.
The Indian players underwent training in Barbados, where they had the opportunity to meet West Indies cricket legend Garry Sobers during one of their sessions.
They have now moved on to Dominica, where the first Test is scheduled to take place on July 12.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of the players going through their final training session in Barbados.
The video showcased Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli facing the Indian pacers, along with local net bowlers.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is expected to make his international debut in the first Test, was also seen facing a few deliveries while head coach Rahul Dravid supervised the proceedings.
The Indian team also played a two-day practice match internally, during which Rohit and Jaiswal impressed by scoring half-centuries. Another practice match is likely to be played before the start of the series.
The first Test will be held from July 12 to 16 in Dominica, followed by the second Test in Trinidad and Tobago from July 20 to 24 at Port of Spain.
Subsequently, a three-match ODI series will take place from July 27 to August 1, followed by a five-match T20I series from August 3 to 13.
The Indian squad for the T20 series has already been announced, with young players Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal earning their maiden call-ups.
The newly-appointed chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, has made minimal changes to the Hardik Pandya-led T20I squad, apart from the inclusion of these two promising IPL 2023 performers.
Jaiswal, who had earlier been selected for the Test and ODI squads, completes a trifecta by making it to the 20-overs setup, while Varma’s consistent performances for the Mumbai Indians have earned him a place in the national team. Notably, neither Virat Kohli nor Rohit Sharma have been included in the T20 squad.
