During New Zealand’s second World Cup warm-up game against South Africa at Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium on October 2, Trent Boult amusingly mimicked his Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain, Sanju Samson.
In a video shared on social media, the left-arm pacer playfully replicated Samson’s actions near the boundary, including the way he took off and put on his cap and even mimicked a shot in the air. The crowd was delighted by Boult’s antics, and it added a fun element to the match.

In terms of his performance on the field, Boult was not just entertaining the fans. He also took two wickets during his four overs against South Africa in the warm-up match. Prior to this, the 34-year-old had an impressive display against England, capturing eight wickets in two matches, which included a five-wicket haul.
Boult, known for his ODI World Cup prowess, had taken 22 wickets in the 2015 edition and 17 wickets in the 2019 edition. His vast experience, including stints in the Indian Premier League with various franchises, positions him as a key asset for New Zealand in the upcoming tournament.
In the warm-up game itself, New Zealand secured a 7-run victory over South Africa through the DLS method. They posted a challenging total of 321/6, with notable contributions from Devon Conway, Tom Latham, and Glenn Phillips. Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen picked up three wickets each for South Africa.
In response, the Proteas put up a strong fight, with Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Heinrich Klaasen making noteworthy contributions. Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi all chipped in with wickets for New Zealand. This victory came on the heels of their earlier win against Pakistan, showcasing New Zealand’s strong form ahead of the World Cup.
