Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was visibly angry with Shubman Gill for a horrible mix-up during the first T20I against Afghanistan on Thursday, January 11 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. However, he played down the furious reaction post-match. India won the game by six wickets.

Rohit Sharma opened the innings along with Shubman Gill. However, he was left disappointed as he got run out for a duck in the innings. On the second delivery of the innings, Rohit Sharma came down the pitch and hit a ball to the right of mid-off. He took off for a run, however, Shubman Gill, who was at the non-striker’s end, kept watching the ball. The Indian skipper was stranded as Gill did not respond to his call for a single. Rohit expressed his frustration as he walked back to the pavilion.

Speaking on his reaction after India’s win, Rohit Sharma said,

“Honestly these things happen. When it happens you feel frustrated because you want to be out there and score runs for your team. Wanted Gill to carry on. He played a good innings but got out.”

Lots of positives from the game: Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma hailed the Indian middle-order for their performance in the first T20I against Afghanistan. Shivam Dube won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant fifty in the match. He scored 60 runs from 40 deliveries, with five boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, Jitesh Sharma, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh also made valuable contributions.

“Lot of positives – Shivam Dube, the way Jitesh batted, Tilak as well and obviously Rinku,” said Rohit Sharma.

The second T20I between India and Afghanistan will take place on Sunday, January 14 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Veteran batter Virat Kohli will return to the Indian squad for the remaining two matches.
