[WATCH] Horrible Mix-Up Costs Rohit Sharma’s Wicket During First T20I Against Afghanistan

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma had a disappointing return to T20I cricket in the first of the three-match series against Afghanistan on Thursday, January 11 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. He was dismissed for a duck owing to a complete miscommunication between him and Shubman Gill.

Rohit Sharma opened the innings alongside Shubman Gill as India began their chase. On the second delivery of the over, Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled a half-volley to Rohit Sharma, who came down the pitch and drilled it right of the mid-off fielder. The ball was racing away before Ibrahim Zadran dived in to stop it.

Rohit Sharma took off for a run as he hit the ball, however, Shubman Gill kept watching the ball from the non-striker’s end. The Indian skipper eventually ended up sacrificing his wicket as Shubman Gill did not respond to his call for a single. Rohit had to walk back to the pavilion disappointed with a two-ball duck.

The first T20I marks Rohit Sharma’s return to India’s T20I setup after a long time. He has been recalled to the Indian team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and is expected to lead India in the mega-event later this year. He last played a T20I in 2022 when India lost to England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup.
