IPL 2024: [WATCH]- Shai Hope Gets Run-Out At The Non-Striker’s End

In the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday (May 7), Shai Hope, the DC batter, faced an unfortunate run-out. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is the venue for tonight’s showdown.

Hope came to the crease following the fall of the first wicket in the fifth over. The West Indies batsman managed to add just one run to the scoreboard before being run out at the non-striker’s end.

In the first delivery of the sixth over, DC opener Abishek Porel struck the ball straight. While attempting to halt its progress, bowler Sandeep Sharma inadvertently redirected the ball onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Hope, who was backing up too far, found himself outside the crease when the bails were dislodged.

Upon being instructed to bat first, DC initiated their innings with a dynamic start, propelled by explosive performances from Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel during the powerplay. Jake, in particular, exhibited aggression against Avesh Khan, striking him for 28 runs in the 4th over. He achieved his half-century but was dismissed in the subsequent over, unable to capitalize on a full toss from Ravichandran Ashwin.

Jake’s opening companion, Porel, persisted at the opposite end and achieved an outstanding half-century while DC encountered a couple of quick wickets during the middle overs. Although Axar Patel (15) and Rishabh Pant (15) showed promise, they couldn’t capitalize on their starts, putting the responsibility on Tristan Stubbs to conclude the innings strongly.

The South African batsman rose to the occasion, smashing 3 sixes and an equal number of fours on his way to 41 runs off 20 balls, aiding the Capitals in reaching a substantial total of 221. Ravichandran Ashwin claimed three wickets for RR in the bowling department.

At the intermission, he pondered over the events that transpired in the initial innings, remarking:

“I would say 220 is about par. We have to bat well because they have Kuldeep and Axar. How we bat against them and in the powerplay will decide (the run-chase). We will get a lot more of those (wickets of full tosses) In modern day T20, those that were good balls earlier are not good balls anymore.”
