Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the greatest batsman of the ear. He almost owns every batting record in the planet. Despite his rich success with the bat, Tendulkar struggled while coming to leading the Indian Cricket Team. Recently, former India cricketer Madan Lal opened up on why Tendulkar struggled as captain.

He had two stints as the captain of the national team but he failed on both occasions. Following his final stint, Tendulkar represented his country for more than a decade, but never took the leadership duties again.

Madan Lal, who coached India from 1996 to 1997, recently opened up on why Sachin Tendulkar struggled as a captain. The former pacer said that cricketer was so involved his own batting that he failed to strike the chords as a leader.

“I won’t agree with you that he was not a great captain. But he was so involved in his own performance, he found it difficult to take care of the team. Because as a captain you not only need to take care of your performance but also get the best performance from the other 10 players. It is critical how you manage them,” he told Sportskeeda.

Meanwhile, during his stint, Sachin Tendulkar led India in 25 Test matches. The Asian giants managed to win only four games while lost nine and managed to salvage a draw on 12 occasions. He had a long stint as the ODI captain but India only managed to win 23 out of 73 matches under him.

Tendulkar had the chance to lead India again after the debacle of the 2007 World Cup in West Indies; however, recommended the name of MS Dhoni. He was also not successful with Mumbai Indians in the IPL managing only 32 wins from 55 games. It was only after Rohit Sharma took over the reins, their fate changed. Currently, they have won four titles – the most by any franchise.
