Sanju Samson, struggling with short-pitched deliveries from Jofra Archer in the ongoing T20I series, has devised a unique training technique to address this challenge. In the first two matches against England, Samson managed scores of 26 and 5, often looking uncomfortable against Archer’s pace.

Determined to improve, Samson undertook an innovative practice session at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, the venue for the third T20I. Unlike his teammates, he focused on tackling short balls on a cemented pitch using plastic balls. With batting coach Sitanshu Kotak’s guidance, Samson practiced pull, hook, ramp, and cut shots to prepare for Archer’s bounce and pace.

Samson’s Focused Preparations in the Nets

During his 45-minute session on the cemented pitch, Samson received throwdowns of rising deliveries, allowing him to refine his shot selection. Sitanshu Kotak frequently interacted with him, offering technical advice on handling Archer’s short-pitched balls. Afterward, Samson continued his preparations on the main square, where he batted for another 30 minutes against climbing deliveries.

This tailored approach indicates his commitment to addressing his vulnerability against bounce and preparing himself for Archer’s pace attack in the upcoming match. Samson’s efforts reflect a focused mindset to contribute more effectively to India’s batting lineup.

India Aim to Seal the Series

India, leading 2-0, will aim to secure the series in Rajkot on Tuesday. The hosts have displayed dominance, with Varun Chakaravarthy’s three-wicket haul and Abhishek Sharma’s match-winning 79 runs steering India to victory in the first match. Despite England’s fightback in the second game, Tilak Varma’s composure ensured a narrow two-wicket win for India. Under head coach Gautam Gambhir, the team remains unbeaten in T20Is.

England, on the other hand, will hope to regroup and deliver a stronger batting performance. Captain Jos Buttler has been the standout player for the visitors, but the rest of the batting lineup has struggled against India’s spinners. Tuesday’s match promises to be a crucial contest as both teams aim to leave their mark on the series.
