[WATCH]- Shreyas Iyer’s Brilliance Helps KL Rahul Run Phil Salt Out During IND vs ENG 1st ODI 2025

England opener Phil Salt was run out in a reckless attempt for a third run during the first ODI against India in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6. Salt had been in strong form, scoring 43 runs off 26 balls with three sixes and five boundaries, but his dismissal came after he attempted a run that wasn’t on offer.

The incident occurred in the ninth over of England’s innings when Hardik Pandya bowled a length delivery outside off. Salt played a cut shot, aiming to place it past backward point. He called for a third run, but his partner, Ben Duckett, remained stationary at the non-striker’s end.

Shreyas Iyer then made a quick 30-meter dash to deliver an accurate throw to wicketkeeper KL Rahul, who completed the run out with Salt well short of his ground. You can watch the video here:

England Lose Openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett After Impressive Start

England lost both openers, Phil Salt and Ben Duckett, after a strong start, following captain Jos Buttler’s decision to bowl first. Duckett followed Salt back to the pavilion as debutant Harshit Rana claimed his first wicket, with a brilliant catch by another debutant, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rana also dismissed Harry Brook for a duck on just three balls in the same 10th over. India’s captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returned to action after the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but Virat Kohli was sidelined due to a knee injury.

The Men in Blue are eager to build on their 4-1 T20I series win under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy. The three ODIs are focused on gearing up the players for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to begin on February 19.
