Kane Williamson pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss Axar Patel during the 2025 Champions Trophy match between New Zealand and India in Dubai on Sunday, March 2. His effort ended a crucial 98-run fourth-wicket partnership between Axar and Shreyas Iyer. Axar was dismissed for 42 off 61 balls, leaving India at 128/4.
The wicket fell in the 30th over of India’s innings when Rachin Ravindra bowled a short delivery spinning towards middle and leg. Axar attempted to glance it fine but got a top edge towards short fine leg.
Despite initially misjudging the ball, Kane Williamson stayed focused, leaped, and stretched out his right hand to complete a stunning one-handed catch. You can watch the video here:

Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel Steady India After Early Collapse Against New Zealand
Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied India after a shaky start against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy clash. The duo built a crucial partnership after the Men in Blue were reduced to 30/3 inside seven overs. Iyer, in particular, has already reached his half-century and will look to convert it into a century.
Meanwhile, India’s top order struggled, with captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill departing for 15 (17), 11 (14), and 2 (7), respectively. At the time of writing, India were 140/4 after 32.3 overs, with Iyer and KL Rahul at the crease. Matt Henry has been the standout bowler for New Zealand, claiming two wickets.
Rohit Sharma and his team, along with Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand, have already secured spots in the Champions Trophy semifinals. The outcome of today’s match will decide the Group A table-topper. Meanwhile, South Africa and Australia have qualified for the semifinals from Group B. The two semifinals are scheduled for March 4 and 5.
