Veteran New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson pulled off a stunning catch during their ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. The 34-year-old covered significant ground to complete the catch, helping New Zealand dismiss Towhid Hridoy and gain momentum in the match.
The breakthrough came in the 21st over, with Bangladesh at 97-2. Off-spinner Michael Bracewell, bowling his seventh over, claimed the crucial wicket. Hridoy, who had faced 23 dot balls, attempted to loft a fuller delivery over cover but mistimed his shot, slicing it in the air.
Positioned at short cover, Kane Williamson reacted swiftly, tracked the ball perfectly, and completed a challenging catch with ease. The 24-year-old Hridoy departed after scoring just seven runs. You can watch the wicket here:

Hridoy had played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s opening Champions Trophy match against India, scoring a resilient century at the Dubai International Stadium to take his team to a total of 228.
Therefore, his dismissal was a significant turning point, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 97-3. Earlier, the Black Caps had already removed Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanzid Hasan after electing to field in Rawalpindi.
Williamson falls cheaply in CT 2025 opener vs Pakistan
After showcasing his brilliance in the field, the stylish right-hander will be eager to contribute with the bat in this match. The former New Zealand captain managed only a single run in their tournament opener against Pakistan, edging one to Mohammad Rizwan off Naseem Shah’s bowling.
However, that did not hinder Mitchell Santner and his team from securing a dominant 60-run victory over the hosts in Karachi. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is fighting to stay in the eight-team tournament but is in trouble, having lost five wickets within 30 overs and reaching 127-5 at the time of writing.
A victory for New Zealand in Rawalpindi would not only guarantee their place in the semi-finals but also eliminate both Pakistan and Bangladesh. Pakistan has already suffered two losses, the most recent being a six-wicket defeat to India on Sunday, February 23, in Dubai.
