After a long wait of 117 days, international Cricket finally resumed yesterday. England and West Indies played the first day of their three-match Test series behind closed doors in Southampton. Australian coach Justin Langer now believes that his side should also tour England to play the limited over series.
Langer firmly thinks that despite having various challenges the tour needs to go-ahead for the health of world cricket. The former cricketer also added that their top players also must be allowed to feature in the Indian Premier League if it takes place later this year.
Australia should visit England – Langer
“I think we have to go to England. There are lots of challenges, of course, but we have to find solutions to make sure that can happen if possible. That’s my view. I think for the health of world cricket.
If things out of control happen and we can’t end up going, at least we can say we’ve done everything in our power to make it happen”, Langer said in comments published by the Daily Telegraph.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the future tour programme of cricket has been completely shaken. Major events such as the IPL, T20 World Cup, Asia Cup 2020 and several other international bilateral series still have an uncertain future.
India is fully committed to playing the four-Test match series against Australia later this year. As a result, the head coach of Australia Justin Langer also wants the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner and Pat Cummins to play in the IPL.
The series will garner a lot of excitement among the fans. Australia will look to win back the series after losing against India for the first time when
“I think we have to (sending Australia players to the play the IPL) talking frankly. I’ll always look for win-win situations and hopefully, we do that when we get some clarity on what’s happening with the schedule,” said Justin Langer.
