Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen smeared cake on KL Rahul’s face as the team celebrated his 33rd birthday on Friday, April 18. Bowling coach Munaf Patel had suggested the playful gesture to Pietersen. The DC squad is currently in Ahmedabad for their upcoming IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans (GT), scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

After a training session at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the team took a break for a brief cake-cutting celebration in honor of Rahul. A video shared by DC’s social media team captured the fun moment, showing Munaf and Pietersen planning the surprise.

As Rahul offered the first piece of cake to physiotherapist Patrick Farhart, Pietersen quickly grabbed some cake and smeared it on Rahul’s face, adding a light-hearted twist to the celebration. You can watch the video here:

The Delhi Capitals are set to play their seventh match of IPL 2025 against the Gujarat Titans on April 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. This will be the first afternoon game in Ahmedabad this season, and DC will aim to extend their perfect away record against GT.

So far, DC have defeated GT twice in Ahmedabad. With five wins from six games this season, the Capitals are in strong form. KL Rahul has been instrumental in DC’s away victories against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). All eyes will be on him to see if he can lead DC to another triumph in Ahmedabad.
