Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane did not hold back after his team’s 39-run defeat against Gujarat Titans, acknowledging the team’s ongoing issues with their top-order batting. Chasing a target of 199, KKR faltered once again and could only manage 159/8. At the post-match presentation, Rahane admitted that although 199 was a competitive total, the target was well within reach.
However, a lackluster start with the bat put pressure on the rest of the lineup. “We’ve been struggling to get good opening partnerships throughout the season, and that’s hurting us,” Rahane said. He emphasized the urgency of addressing these batting issues to remain competitive in the tournament.

Bowling Progress Not Matched by Batting and Fielding
Rahane acknowledged that KKR’s bowling unit has been showing consistent improvement, but pointed out that the batting unit has not contributed enough to secure wins. He noted that the pitch was on the slower side, but still believed that a total under 200 should have been manageable. “Our bowlers have been getting better every game. There’s no blame on them,” he stated.
However, he stressed the need for stronger performances during the middle overs with the bat. In addition to the batting struggles, Rahane expressed concern over the fielding effort, highlighting missed opportunities and a lack of sharpness. “Fielding is an area we can definitely control. Saving 15–20 runs makes a big difference. It’s about mindset and commitment,” he added.
Shubman Gill Praises GT’s Complete Performance
On the other side, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill praised his team’s all-round performance. Gill led from the front with a stunning 90 off 55 deliveries and was named Player of the Match. He mentioned that the outcome of their games against Delhi Capitals and KKR would be crucial for their place on the points table. “We talked about how these matches would define our position. Good teams finish games strongly,” Gill said.
He also acknowledged that while there’s always room for improvement, especially with small margins like ten extra runs, finding ways to win is what sets the top teams apart. With this win, GT cemented their position at the top of the table and demonstrated their consistency in crucial games.
