Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) was officially inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame for 2025 on Monday, June 9. The ceremony took place in London. Dhoni represented India in international cricket for close to 15 years following his debut in 2004.

Over the course of his career, he featured in 90 Test matches, 350 One Day Internationals, and 98 T20 Internationals before retiring from international cricket in August 2020.

“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever,” Dhoni told the ICC website.

ICC Hall Of Fame Welcomes Hayden And Smith Alongside Dhoni

Alongside MS Dhoni, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and South African great Hashim Amla were also inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on Monday. Hayden, a key member of Australia’s World Cup-winning squads in 2003 and 2007, holds the record for the highest individual Test score by an Australian—380 against Zimbabwe in Perth in 2003.

Hashim Amla, who represented South Africa from 2004 to 2019, shares a similar feat, having registered the highest individual Test score by a South African. He scored an unbeaten 311 against England at The Oval in 2012. His long-time teammate and former South African captain, Graeme Smith, was also honoured for his remarkable contributions to the game.

Smith captained South Africa in 109 Tests—the most by any player in Test history. Under his leadership, the Proteas recorded historic series wins in England (2008 and 2012) and in Australia (2008/09 and 2012). Another inductee was former New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori, who played international cricket between 1997 and 2015.

Making history for Pakistan, Sana Mir became the first female cricketer from the country to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
